Session Overview

Session Statement of Need and Purpose

Nurse SmartUser is an efficiency training program designed to help nurses make the most of Epic tools. Each session contains one hour of time-saving tips for a specific subject.

Nurses may not know how to efficiently locate existing reporting content, leading them to either recreate reports that already exist or go without. Without knowing how to apply reporting workbench filters, adjust columns, and save report views, users may end up working with default report outputs that may not suit their specific needs, and spend time manually sorting results rather than creating reusable personalizations. Nurses may also be intimidated by self-service reporting in SlicerDicer, or unaware of the options to operationalize those results.

In this course, learners will explore Epic's three primary reporting tools: Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, and Dashboards. With emphasis on personalization, you'll learn how to find, organize, and run Reporting Workbench reports using the Analytics Catalog, filter results, and save custom report views for repeated use. The course also covers building new reports from templates and taking bulk actions directly from results, such as sending patient messages or placing orders. For SlicerDicer, you'll learn to locate data models and existing sessions in the Analytics Catalog, then build new sessions by defining patient populations, applying slices and measures, and visualizing results. Finally, you'll pick up Dashboard personalization tips to create an efficient launchpad for all your reporting content.

Session Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Find and personalize Reporting Workbench reports.
  • Create a new Reporting Workbench report and take action from results.
  • Describe the basics of creating SlicerDicer sessions to explore Patient data.
  • Apply dashboard personalizations to effectively organize reporting content and streamline reporting workflows.
