Education Essentials - Education Career Development & Scholarship

Welcome! In this module—Education Career Development & Scholarship— we will focus on resources not only for your growth as an educator but also to show your work and the value added clearly to stakeholders. We will highlight the importance of community and peer-observation in furthering expertise in teaching, as well as resources and ideas to begin to build your teaching network.  Educational scholarship is crucial to the growth of effective teaching and learning in the health sciences; hence we will highlight approaches and resources in this realm.  Finally, this module will support teachers in ensuring that their CVs accurately reflect their educational work, and how to prepare for academic promotion with education as an area of excellence or significance.

This continuing education (CE) activity is designed to improve learner competence in the following areas:

  • National Academy of Medicine Competencies - Apply quality improvement

Intended Audience

The Essentials in Education Module Series is intended for interprofessional health science faculty and staff who are interested in growing their skills and knowledge in the domains of teaching and learning.  Some examples may not align with your specific professional learning climate, though all can be adapted to your and your learners’ contexts.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational activity participants will:

  1. Map current and ideal educational network, with peers, collaborators, and mentors to identify next steps in building a professional network.
  2. Describe health professions educational scholarship and 3 strategies to integrate it in current teaching practices.
  3. Identify best-practices in updating CVs and preparing for academic promotion as a health professions teacher, including review and summary of evaluation and learning outcomes data.
