Produced by the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health - Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership, speakers from different professions explore a topic or theme that is evidence-based, relevant to their practice, and has an interprofessional lens.
In this episode, we’re taking a close look at the recent measles outbreaks that have emerged across the United States and globally. With cases rising at a pace we haven’t seen in years, healthcare professionals are once again on the front lines—identifying early symptoms, implementing infection‑control measures, and working with public health partners to prevent further spread. Our guest host for this episode is Dr. Marcia Slattery. She is a Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and the Clinical Director of the Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership. - Analyze the epidemiologic drivers behind the current measles resurgence, including domestic vaccination gaps and global transmission patterns.
- Identify early clinical signs of measles and apply appropriate triage, isolation, and infection‑control measures in healthcare settings.
- Describe the roles of healthcare systems and public‑health agencies in measles case investigation, contact tracing, and community‑level prevention strategies.
