The Department of Psychiatry M&M (Morbidity and Mortality) Conference is a monthly conference that highlights recent cases with adverse outcomes to identify areas of improvement for clinicians involved in the case, modify behavior and judgment based on previous experiences, and to prevent repetition of errors leading to complications. Cases are submitted to a secure database each week and are reviewed and selected for presentation by the faculty moderator. Residents focus their presentations on what happened to cause the complication and what could be done to prevent the complication for future cases (increase medical knowledge, improve systems-based issues, improve team communication) and cite scholarly works to further back up their presentations.
