The UW Health Clinical Simulation Program Debriefing Module with In-Person Course is part 2 of a 2 part series. This activity will go over the best practices in simulation debriefing including structured frameworks used in the UW Health Clinical Simulation Program. It is expected that you complete either the online Simulation Facilitation Module or an in-person session from the Simulation Facilitation Course Offerings prior to starting this course.

This course includes an online self-paced module and an in-person session. If you do not have an in-person session date on your calendar, contact the Clinical Simulation Program at 608-265-1047.

MD/DO, RN, APRN, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists

Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational activity, the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Describe the value of debriefing in healthcare simulation from an ethical perspective
  2. Describe the importance of structure in debriefing
  3. Explain the various debriefing models found in simulation literature and feel comfortable incorporating the PEARLS method into practice
  4. Define debriefing in healthcare simulation terminology and best practices related to the PEARLS framework
  5. Create a psychologically safe environment for debriefing
  6. Describe the techniques in mitigating difficult debriefing circumstances
