imageZachary Shinar, MD works full time at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California as a board certified emergency physician.  He is the chair of the Emergency Department and
co-directs the ED ECLS (extracorporeal  life support) program.  Dr. Shinar graduated as
chief resident from Los Angeles County/USC Emergency Medicine Program after completing his Doctor of Medicine training at the University of Southern California Keck
School of Medicine.  He studied bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania as an
undergraduate. 


Dr. Shinar brings his expertise on the subject of ECMO to other medical staff in part through his EDECMO podcast, where he is a co-founder and principal producer. The podcast has over 300,000 downloads across 30 countries to date.  Dr. Shinar is also involved with medical education with high school and college students as co-founder of Emerge The Conference.  Dr. Shinar's work on resuscitative ECMO has been published in several journals such as Resuscitation, Journal of Emergency Medicine, and Western Journal of Emergency Medicine. He has given several talks on the subject across the country and worldwide at conferences such as ACEP and AAEM.  Dr. Shinar has also lent his expertise as a writer and medical consultant for the TV show "Code Black".
