Veterinary Anesthesia - Carrie Schroeder, DVM

Intended Audience

Clinical anesthesia providers in the Department of Anesthesiology, which includes both faculty physicians (MD, DO) as well as residents or fellows in training, RNs, and clinical anesthetists, comprise the target audience. Other specialties who would benefit from attending include PA, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and students.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  1. Relate aspects of the practice of anesthesia in human patients to veterinary species while contrasting the differences between the two practices.
  2. Identify the differences in anatomy and physiology in different non-human genera may be applied to create a tailored peri anesthetic plan.
  3. Apply newly discovered knowledge of some of the unique veterinary anesthetics to potential agent exposures that could be encountered when treating members of the veterinary profession.
