Intended Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, psychologists, social workers, licensed counselors and other interested mental healthcare providers.

Elements of Competence

This continuing education activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of practice-based learning and improvement, and the interprofessional competencies of roles/responsibilities, and teams/teamwork.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this series, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  • Identify when psychotropic medication may be indicated as part of a client's treatment plan.
  • Assess the appropriateness of psychiatric referral by considering client readiness, treatment goals, and openness to medication as part of an integrative plan.
  • Describe integrative psychiatric approaches that extend beyond medication, including lifestyle, psychosocial, and collaborative interventions.

Credit Designation Statements

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs.

American Medical Association (AMA)
The University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

The University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 ANCC contact hours. ANCC pharmacotherapeutic hours will be calculated and awarded as appropriate.

Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 general live general continuing education credits.
