Intended Audience
This activity is designed for psychologists, social workers, physicians, nurses and other interested mental healthcare providers.
Elements of Competence
This continuing education activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of practice-based learning and improvement, and the interprofessional competencies of roles/responsibilities, and teams/teamwork.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participation in this series, members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Apply a critical lens to the term of "allyship" and identify challenges and opportunities
- Discuss how defensiveness and denial contributes to a culture of harm often perpetuated by "well meaning allies"
- Demonstrate engagement in activities designed to build empathy and understanding of the experiences of marginalized groups
- Explain the difference between equity and equality, understanding the importance of providing different levels of support based on individual needs to achieve fairness
