Statement of Need and Purpose
Using a new electronic health record (EHR) changes the way you document and complete tasks necessary for patient care. Learning how to use the system is essential to support efficiency, best practices, and most importantly, patient safety.
Now that you are using Epic at your organization, learn how to move through your day-to-day work more quickly, to become a happier, more efficient user of Epic. In this training, you will learn how to complete common workflows in fewer steps, update key user settings, and discover other tips and tricks to improve efficiency in Epic.
This course is focused on the Outpatient Provider.
Elements of Competence
This educational activity is designed to change learner competence in the following areas:
- The American Board of Medical Specialties: Systems-based practice
- National Academy of Medicine/Nursing: Utilize informatics
- Interprofessional Education Collaborative Competencies: Interprofessional communication
Intended Audience
End User Training is designed to meet the needs of physicians, advanced practice providers, as well as others who are using Epic in their daily practice.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participating in this training, members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Update user-specific settings in common workspaces to support efficient system navigation.
- Create and save frequently used, user-specific versions of Epic tools for quick access.
- Use the correct tools to efficiently find patient information.
- Communicate asynchronously in the electronic health record with members of the healthcare team for timely, effective, and safe patient care.
- Optimize how you enter diagnoses and orders and write notes to increase efficiency and accuracy in the outpatient clinical setting.
