Course Overview

Physician Builders make key decisions during the electronic health record (EHR) implementation and maintenance process, and they need to understand the implications of those decisions on clinicians and patient safety. This course provides advanced knowledge and skills to implement effective workspace configuration and review tools in the EHR.

Statement of Need and Purpose

The purpose of this training is to acquire skills used to implement workspace configurations and review tools. These skills assist Physician Builders in minimizing navigation, helping clinicians grasp the patient’s story as quickly as possible. It is important to develop these skills within the context of diverse professions and patient cultural identities and health beliefs.

Intended Audience

This program is intended for physicians in specialty and sub-specialty areas using the Epic EMR in their daily practice.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational series members of the healthcare team will be able to 

  1. Describe the workspace configuration and review tools available to minimize navigation through patient health information in the EHR.
  2. Build and modify navigators to find patient information and reports to trend and correlate patient data.
  3. Discuss how implementing a standard approach to ordering workflows enhances clinical staff productivity and has the potential to increase clinician satisfaction and patient safety.
  4. Evaluate which tool is best for which clinical need and address team-based care and patient safety.
