Best Practices in Telemedicine: Patient Care In Difficult Times
During times of crisis, the delivery of healthcare may need to adapt. Thankfully, the evolution of technology has allowed for many advances in the realm of telemedicine. This course will cover best practices as well as provide materials and guidance to help conduct successful telemedicine visits for both your staff and patients.
As a result of this educational session, learners will be able to:
- Provide background and significance to our “new normal” of using telemedicine.
- Demonstrate the current extent of video-based technology for use in the primary care setting.
- Recognize the complexities of performing telemedicine visits (i.e. “the technology is the easy part…”).
- Appreciate the importance of having a good “webside manner.”
- Identify which pediatric primary care patients are good candidates for telemedicine.
- Demonstrate knowledge regarding the unique challenges of adolescent visits.
- Identify benefits of telemedicine in pediatric primary care.
- Formulate a team for your pediatric primary care telemedicine care.
Tom Brazelton, MD, MPH, FAAP, is a Professor and Vice Chair for Quality in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and serves as the Medical Director for Telehealth at UW Health. Dr. Brazelton earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, completed his pediatrics residency at Children's Hospital Oakland in California, and his Critical Care fellowship at Children's Hospital in Boston.
