Overview

Interdisciplinary mock events will be conducted for staff at the Women & Children's Hospital.
Participants will practice emergency response procedures in the following areas:

  • Neonatal emergencies
  • Obstetrical emergencies
  • Fire emergencies

Elements of Competence

This educational activity is designed to change learner competence and focuses on the following competency areas:

  • The American Board of Medical Specialties: Patient care and procedural skills, and Interpersonal and Communication Skills
  • Interprofessional Education Collaborative Competencies: Teams and Teamwork

Intended Audience

 Nurses (RN), advanced nurse practitioners (APNP), physicians (MD), health unit technicians (HUT), patient care technicians (PCT), and obstetrical technicians (OB TEC).

Learning Objectives

    As a result of this activity, participants, as members of the healthcare team will be able to:

    • Discuss ways to lower the risk of fire within the Operating Room.
    • Demonstrate management of a patient experiencing an obstetric emergency, including hemorrhage and hypertension
    • Demonstrate nursing skills for admission and ongoing care of NICU patients with various diagnoses.
    • Apply appropriate resuscitation measures for a neonate in distress.
