Wisconsin Update in Geriatric Medicine 2025
Conference Overview
The Wisconsin Update in Geriatric Medicine (WUGM) conference focuses on interprofessional collaboration and team-based care to deliver the latest information on age-related health issues and to support healthy aging. Over this four day conference, speakers from an array of backgrounds and specialties will cover both basic topics in Geriatrics and recent developments in the field through live, interactive presentations. The conference is intended to promote collaboration, explore the dynamics of team-based care and apply the Geriatrics 5Ms framework to the care of geriatric patients.
Conference Fees
An early-bird discount of $50 will be offered for all registrations made prior to July 1, 2025.
Physicians:

Conference Format
Live/In-person
A virtual option will be offered to VA-affiliated attendees only. The virtual live-stream link will sent to all applicable registrants.
Intended Audience
This conference is intended for clinicians who work with older adults, including, but not limited to: physicians, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers and interprofessional trainees. All are welcome to attend.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Describe the Importance of determining "what matters most" with geriatric patients.
- Discuss palliative care and advance care planning.
- Discuss appropriate pharmacologic and non pharmacologic treatments for geriatric patients.
- Identify pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic changes that affect medication prescribing.
- Describe the operation of long-term care systems and specialized geriatric assessment programs for geriatric patients.
- Provide updates on key geriatric syndromes (e.g., urinary incontinence, metabolic bone disease, dementia and falls).
- Outline clinical pearls that can be applied to the care of geriatric patients across various settings: hospital, post-acute and long-term care, home-based care, rural and urban.
- Apply knowledge of age-related physiological changes in geriatric patients as they relate to the management of common chronic diseases.
Elements of Competence
This continuing education (CE) activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, patient care and procedural skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and systems-based practice, in addition to the interprofessional competencies of roles/responsibilities and interprofessional communication.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
In-person registration cancellation policy: Requests for cancellation must be submitted in writing to [email protected]. Cancellation requests received at least 5 days prior to the conference will all a full refund except for a nonrefundable processing feel of $50. No refunds will be made for cancellations received less than 5 days prior to activity start date.
Virtual registration cancellation policy: Because adding a virtual option for WUGM 2025 represents an added, fixed expense for additional AV support, only a 50% refund, minus a nonrefundable processing fee of $50 will be offered for virtual attendees who choose to cancel their registration at least 5 days prior to the conference. No refunds will be made for cancellations received less than 5 days prior to the activity start date.
Program Changes
Emergency situations occasionally occur and may necessitate topic or speaker changes. The Medical College of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP reserve the right to alter or substitute a topic or speaker without prior notification.
