Series Overview

Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a statewide educational, teleECHO initiative that connects clinical experts with primary care providers and medication assisted treatment prescribers across Wisconsin in an effort to reduce opioid-related complications. Via a regularly scheduled videoconference, a multidisciplinary panel of specialists provide education and lead a collaborative discussion on submitted patient cases.

This effort is sponsored by UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Division of Care and Treatment Services.

In addition to knowledge, this activity has been designed to change learner competence and performance.

Practice Gaps

Opioid-related complications are at crisis levels with no signs of abatement. Rural patients and providers experience particular management challenges due to a lack of resources and expert knowledge.
