Series Overview

Participants will learn how to evaluate surgical outcomes and apply quality improvement principles to enhance patient care. The conference will highlight evidence-based practices, case reviews, and opportunities to identify and address system gaps. Attendees will also strengthen their understanding of surgical best practices and interdisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, the activity supports ongoing professional development by fostering critical thinking and continuous learning in general surgery.

Global Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will:

• Analyze surgical cases and outcomes to identify opportunities for quality improvement, improved patient safety, and equitable patient care.
• Apply evidence-based guidelines and best practices to clinical decision-making in general surgery.
• Demonstrate effective interprofessional communication and collaboration during case reviews, care planning, and management of complications.
• Evaluate the impact of social determinants of health, access to care, and other patient-specific factors on surgical outcomes and identify strategies to reduce disparities.

By completing the requirements for this activity, the learner gives UW-Madison ICEP permission to share completion data with the ACCME and the certifying board(s).
