UW Health Northern Illinois: Hearty Conversations: Exploring Cardiovascular Health Together

The focus of this conference will be to provide updates in cardiovascular medicine including best practices, guideline updates, developing research, treatments, and disparities in cardiovascular care. During the conference, learners will engage with experts in a wide variety of topics related to primary care, including Watchman and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion and Update on Atrial Fibrillation, reducing risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease through cholesterol management, aortic stenosis- diagnosis and treatment, guideline directed medical and device therapy for heart failure, advances in cardiac surgery.

Cardiovascular Medicine is a field that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of heart and blood vessel diseases. It encompasses conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart rhythm disorders, heart valve diseases, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. National guidelines helping primary care clinicians establish best practices are refined annually.

Intended Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, and physician assistants in primary care settings.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will be able to: 

  1. Demonstrate new and best practice cardiology treatments and procedures including Watchman.
  2. Improve preventative treatment strategies in cardiovascular health.
  3. Define proper diagnosis and treatment of Aortic Stenosis.
  4. Discuss diagnosis and Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
  5. Explain best practices for guideline directed medical and device therapy for heart failure.

Elements of Competence 

This activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, employ evidence-based practice, and providing patient/person-centered care. This activity also focuses on the interprofessional competencies of roles and responsibilities. Additionally, the activity is designed to address the following DEI competency: addressing health disparities.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY

Requests for cancellation must be submitted in writing to help@icep.wisc.edu. Cancellation requests received at least 96 hours prior to the conference will allow a full refund except for the nonrefundable processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received less than 96 hours prior to the activity start date.

In the event that the in-person event is cancelled, the conference will move to a fully virtual format and your enrollment will automatically be transferred.
