  1. Examine coaching from mentorship and sponsorship and identify the structural components of an evidence-based coaching program for surgical residents.
  2. Assess the evidence for coaching interventions in surgical training using the same evidentiary standard applied to clinical practice change.
  3. Develop an institutional rationale for implementing a structured, universal coaching program in surgical residency training.
