Pediatrics Medical Education Week 2026

Madison, WI US
February 9, 2026 to February 12, 2026

Pediatrics Medical Education Week 2025

Overview

The Department of Pediatrics Annual Medical Education Week will take place February 9-12, 2026.This weeklong event will feature a mix of live-streamed lectures, didactic and interactive sessions and a hands-on workshop. Faculty, staff, learners and colleagues across the Department of Pediatrics and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health are invited to participate. Medical Education Week provides an opportunity to deepen understanding and strengthen knowledge in the field of medical education. Featured sessions this year will explore: The medical school accreditation process, the role of AI in medical education, the SIMPL feedback framework and resident autonomy.

Elements of Competence

This educational activity is designed to change learner competence and focuses on the following competencies:

  • Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)/Nursing: Medical knowledge, Practice-based learning and improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, and Professionalism
  • Interprofessional Education Collaborative Competencies: Values/ethics for interprofessional practice, Communication, and Teams and teamwork
  • Social Impact and Belonging: Value culturally-centered care

Intended Audience

This activity was designed by and for physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, fellows, and residents in the Department of Pediatrics.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Describe innovations and best practices in medical education
  2. Develop and implement strategies to support international medical graduates
  3. Identify how to promote resident autonomy as a medical educator
  4. Apply effective feedback strategies (e.g., SIMPL framework) to enhance clinical teaching and support learner growth
  5. Describe the medical school accreditation process, including key steps, stakeholders involved, and implications for learners and faculty

Practice Gaps and Needs

There are few structured programs within the Department of Pediatrics to foster collaboration and disseminate knowledge to promote scholarship in medical education. After surveying the members of the department, including Medical Education Scholarship in Pediatrics cohort and the Education Group, conversations among faculty members and related literature, it was determined that members of the Department of Pediatrics  are lacking education in: giving and receiving feedback, promoting Pediatrics as an area of interest to students, use of AI, and trainee autonomy. It is also critical that these areas of need reflect social impact and sense of belonging.
