ForwardPathways to Improving Lung Cancer Screening in Primary Care
Overview
This interprofessional virtual live event is designed to address critically low rates of lung cancer screening (LCS) in primary care. This interactive activity reviews current eligibility criteria, barriers to screening, and strategies for shared decision-making and communicating with patients eligible for screening. Participants will explore practical solutions to overcome clinician and patient barriers, tools for implementing screening workflows in primary care, and ways to communicate complex screening results to patients.
Intended Audience
This activity is intended for nurses, advance practice nurses, physicians, physician assistants, and health professions students, including residents and fellows.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participation in this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will:
- List the current eligibility criteria and explain the guidelines for LCS
- Discuss the unmet needs related to the low rate of LCS in primary care in the US
- Describe clinician and patient barriers and facilitators related to appropriate LCS in primary care
- Explain ways to ensure that eligible patients are identified and appropriately screened for lung cancer
- Identify ways to implement SDM in conversations on LCS
- Discuss communication tools regarding LCS results counseling (eg, nodule findings, false positives, etc)

Cancellation requests received at least 96 hours prior to the conference will allow a full refund except for the $10 nonrefundable processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received less than 96 hours prior to the activity start date.
Deadline for Claiming Credit Policy
This course expires 45 days after the last day of the activity. Learners will not be able to claim credit after this date.
