Objectives:
- Describe the time course and probabilistic nature of spontaneous recovery following recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury and apply this framework to patient counseling.
- Explain a two-stage model of RLN regeneration and discuss why severity of injury may be a more important determinant of recovery time than distance from the larynx.
- Discuss emerging frontiers in RLN injury treatment, including neuromodulation and regenerative approaches such as muscle progenitor cell therapy.
