Oh Happy Day - Culturally Adaptive Depression Intervention
Oh Happy Day Class (OHDC) is an empirically validated behavioral intervention, created by Psychologist Dr. Earlise Ward, to treat depression among African American adults. This is a group counseling intervention based on the research of Dr. Ward. A culturally adapted intervention refers to the modification of evidence-based treatments that may include changes to the approach to service delivery, the nature of the therapeutic relationship, or the components of the treatment itself in order to be compatible with the cultural beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors of the patients/clients. The cultural adaptations of the OHDC are based on culturally sensitive frameworks, along with an Afrocentric paradigm.
