Dennis G. Maki Infectious Disease Update Conference 2025
Honoring a Legacy, Advancing a Mission: The Dennis G. Maki, MD Infectious Disease Conference
We invite you to join us in honoring Dennis G. Maki, MD, Emeritus Professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, for his remarkable legacy as a physician, educator, and leader in the field of Infectious Disease.
This conference addresses the urgent need for accurate, up-to-date information on infectious diseases—especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and amid a national shortage of ID specialists. With over 80% of Wisconsin counties lacking an infectious disease physician, frontline providers play a vital role in managing both common and emerging infections.
Key topics include:
- Antibiotic stewardship and combating resistance
- Vaccine-preventable diseases and addressing hesitancy
- Practical approaches to infectious disease care in primary and hospital settings
Designed for primary care and hospital-based providers, this event offers evidence-based insights and actionable strategies to improve patient outcomes and public health.
Element of Competence
This activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, patient-centered care, employing evidence-based practice, and population health. This activity also focuses on the interprofessional competencies of roles/responsibilities.
Intended Audience
This activity is intended for primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care specialists dealing with infectious disease.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will improve ability to...
- Prevent, accurately diagnose, and optimally treat infectious disease conditions commonly seen by the primary care health care team
- Develop a culture of antimicrobial stewardship to optimize clinical outcomes and minimize unintended consequences of antimicrobial use
- Explain updated infectious disease practice guidelines
- Describe the unique infectious disease risks of vulnerable patient populations
- Identify health disparities that may impact access to care and/or the management of patients
