iCAM: Introduction to Culturally Aware Mentorship 2022-25
Most faculty learn to mentor by experimenting and analyzing success and failure over numerous years before developing an effective method of mentoring. The lack of formal mentor training may result in faculty mentors being ineffective in the mentor-mentee relationships/partnerships, particularly where cultural, ethnic, or racial differences exist. The goal of this course is to accelerate the process of becoming an effective faculty mentor to underrepresented (UR) trainees. Our approach provides mentors with an intellectual framework provided through an online mentoring curriculum.
Intended Audience
Mentors in the medical and biomedical research disciplines, especially for underrepresented (UR) trainees
Learning Objectives
- Discuss how cultural diversity issues are related to trainees' development, academic outcomes, and career success.
- Recognize how worldviews arising from cultural experiences can affect interactions with trainees of a racially or culturally different background.
POLICY ON FACULTY AND SPONSOR DISCLOSURE
