Luigi Puglielli, MD, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology, School of Medicine and Public Health of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his degrees from the Catholic University of Rome (Italy) and then completed his post-doctoral training at the Center for Advanced Biomedical Research of Boston University. He was an Instructor at Harvard University Medical School (Massachusetts General Hospital) prior to joining UW-Madison. Dr. Puglielli’s broad research interests are focused on molecular mechanisms of neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. His laboratory is credited for the discovery of the endoplasmic reticulum acetylation machinery, which plays a fundamental role in maintaining protein homeostasis and is dysfunctional in several human diseases across lifespan.
