Series Overview

Each session includes the presentation of clinical cases followed by discussion and Q/A. The proposed format for case presentation chose to utilize the topics identified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) for the certification exam content outline which complements the proposed journal club format. The cases presented will provide up to date background knowledge, current practice guidelines, and approaches to care. 

Target Audience

Division of Genetics and Metabolism staff and students including physicians, genetic counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners, clinic coordinators and genetics trainees (rotating residents/medical students, medical genetic fellows, genetic counseling students), and State Lab of Hygiene faculty and staff including cytogeneticists, molecular geneticists, lab directors and fellows.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 ANCC contact hour.

National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC)

The National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) has authorized Master of Genetic Counselor Studies to offer up to 1.6 CEUs or 16 Category 1 contact hours for the activity Genetics and Metabolism Journal Club. The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) will accept CEUs earned at this program for the purposes of genetic counselor certification and recertification.

Continuing Education Units

The University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP, as a member of the University Professional & Continuing Education Association (UPCEA), authorizes this program for 0.1 continuing education units (CEUs) or 1 hour.
