Series Overview

The Genetics and Metabolism Journal Club and Case Conference has chosen to utilize the topics identified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) for the certification exam content outline for journal club topic guidance and to complement the cases presented in case conference. The cases presented will provide up to date background knowledge, current practice guidelines, and approaches to care, and the journal club format remains an evidence-based practice for educating learners in the health professions. Every session includes the presentation of a recent article from a peer reviewed journal which is sent to participants the preceding week or of recent clinical cases. Presentations are followed by Q/A and group discussion. There is a different emphasis on topic for each week. Also, these were crossed with the current genetic specialties at UW Health to ensure all practice areas are represented. Journal Club and Case Conference participants were sent a Qualtrics survey to gauge their agreement with the suggested list of topics; respondents unanimously agreed with the choices.
