Racial and Ethnic Variation in BRCA1 and BRCA2 Genetic Test Results Among Individuals Referred for Genetic Counseling at a Large Urban Comprehensive Cancer Center

  1. Illustrate the existence of ethnic disparities in the prevalence of pathogenic variants and variants of uncertain significance (VUS) in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.

  2. Examine the significance of the reported prevalence rates of pathogenic variants in BRCA1 and BRCA2 for different racial and ethnic groups and understand the potential impact of these rates on cancer risk assessment and management.

  3. Identify the limitations of the study and the need for additional research to better understand the genetic spectrum of pathogenic variants in ethnic minority groups.
