Series Overview
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is partnering with the Bluebird Way Foundation to host and produce 5 virtual Family-Led Academic Grand “FLAG” Rounds focused on Ableism in Pediatrics. These national, quarterly educational sessions will be led and presented by families. FLAG Rounds flips the traditional model and embraces family as educators. Families will present an aspect of their “case” as a story and then offer strategies to develop knowledge, skills and abilities to perform, or partner in, the essential activities of care of children with disabilities and/or medical complexity.
Global Objectives
As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will improve ability to:
- Identify individual perceptions and biases that may inhibit the care of CYSHCN or meaningful partnership in care with children and families.
- Examine the roles of stories in communication, relationships, and interactions in the delivery of holistic collaborative pediatric care.
- Identify the value of those with lived experience as teachers of medical education.
- Analyze issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice relevant to pediatric care.
