Family LENS series
The aim of this curriculum is to share family perspectives on life with their child with medical complexity (CMC) with medical trainees. It is important for future health care providers to realize that what they see in the clinical setting is only a small part of life for families and their children. By sharing key pieces of caregivers’ stories, learners will have the opportunity to learn directly from families about how they can become good partners in providing patient and family centered care on interdisciplinary teams.
Global Objectives
As a result of this educational series, members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Improve their ability to effectively collaborate with children with medical complexity and their families in healthcare encounters.
- Describe common experiences of caregivers of children with medical complexity, including both barriers and facilitators of health for their children.
- Identify ableism and advocate on behalf of their children with medical complexity patients and their families.
Intended Audience
Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses RN, Nurses Advanced Practice, Students, Dieticians, Genetic Counselors, Physical Therapists, Social Workers
