Emergency Medicine Critical Care Transport (EMCCT) 2026 - July 22nd

July 22, 2026

The UW Health Critical Care Transport (CCT) Education is a multidisciplinary team comprised of nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, communication specialists, and program leadership. We are committed to providing quality education curriculum that satisfies the education requirements set forth by UW Health policy, and the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). These requirements are satisfied with a multi-faceted approach utilizing didactic education, computer-based training, simulation, and clinical experiences.

Elements of Competence

This continuing education (CE) activity has been designed to change learner competence and performance, and focuses on the following competencies:

American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Patient care and procedural skills
  • Practice-based learning and improvement
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Systems-based practice
Interprofessional
  • Communication
  • Roles/responsibilities
  • Teams/teamwork

    Intended Audience

This activity is designed for physicians and nurses practicing in the critical care transport environment.

    Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

    • Differentiate between the circuit anatomy, flow dynamics, and physiological indications of Venovenous (VV) and Venoarterial (VA) ECMO.
    • Interpret Cardiohelp console data and flow metrics to make clinical decisions regarding medical management and patient titration.
    • Formulate and execute immediate troubleshooting protocols for critical transport-related ECMO emergencies, including venous drainage insufficiency, pump failure, and cardiac arrest/arrhythmias.
    • Analyze clinical signs of severe cardiotoxicity and cardiac collapse to initiate rapid, and targeted medical interventions.
    • Appraise patient status dynamically under stress to adapt resuscitation plans as a cohesive, multidisciplinary transport team.
    • Analyze clinical signs of severe cardiotoxicity and cardiac collapse to initiate rapid, targeted medical interventions in a high-fidelity transport simulation.
    • Appraise patient status dynamically under stress to adapt resuscitation plans as a cohesive, multidisciplinary transport team.
    • Demonstrate effective interprofessional communication, closed-loop feedback, and clear role delegation during high-acuity patient handoffs and transport crises.
