Practice Gaps and Needs

Based on documented gaps in current practice, this activity addresses critical topics in offering the opportunity of organ donation and managing a potential organ donation patient, consent conversation skills, and clinical donor management skills.

After attending this activity, attendees should gain an understanding and the ability to explain what opportunities exist for organ and tissue donation, better understand and have the ability to speak to the dual advocacy nature of this work, and will gain confidence in being able to speak with donor families and assist in the management of donors.

Elements of Competence

This activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice. This activity also focuses on the interprofessional competencies of patient/person-centered care, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement.

Intended Audience

This activity is designed to meet the needs of primary care physicians, physician assistants, advance practice nurses, certified surgical technicians/AORN, clergy, social workers, and other professionals who are interested in expanding their knowledge and improving their care of patients.
