Overview
By participating in this class, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and concerns for hospitalized patients with Diabetes Mellitus. They will be able to recognize key signs and symptoms of complications such as DKA, HHS, and hypoglycemia, along with appropriate treatment options. In addition, participants will learn important pre- and post-operative interventions to ensure safe and effective care for surgical patients with diabetes. This knowledge will enhance their ability to provide timely, evidence-based care and improve patient outcomes.

As a result of this activity, participants, as members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Discuss 3 areas of concern for hospitalized patients with Diabetes Mellitus
- Describe 3 signs/symptoms of DKA/HHS, hypoglycemia and treatment options
- List pre and post-operative interventions for the patient with Diabetes Mellitus
