Overview
The Research Symposium includes topics related to clinical research, new information, and enhanced technology that can or will be used in the healthcare environment at UWNI. We anticipate that participants will learn evidence‑based practices that can be utilized in their specialty area.
Elements of Competence
This educational activity is designed to change learner competence and focuses on the following competencies:

Intended Audience
This activity is designed for nurses and Patient Care Technicians.
Learning Objectives
By participating in this activity, learners--as members of the healthcare team--will be able to:
- Describe common mechanisms of injury encountered in backyard pediatric trauma
- Explain common injury patterns in backyard pediatric trauma
- Identify opportunities to intervene and prevent future significant injuries
- Describe the mechanisms of concussion
- Apply current consensus guidelines to the stepwise management of sport-related concussion
- Analyze early clinical signs of sport-related concussion
- Identify red flag symptoms and exam findings that warrant urgent imaging for structural brain injury
