Elements of Competence

  • Cultivate a culture of respect by modeling Respect for People Commitments
  • Incorporate Respect for People Commitments into your Leader Standard Work

Class 2:  Leading Respect for People - Part 1

  • Routinely use and embrace the Transformational Leadership Mindset and OARS (open-ended questions, affirming, reflective listening, and summarizing) Plus into your Leader Standard Work
  • Incorporate coaching, reinforcement, and recognition of behaviors that demonstrate Respect for People Commitments by using Transformational Leadership Mindset and OARS Plus

Class 3:  Leading Respect for People - Part 2

  • With the Transformational Leadership Mindset, use OARS Plus skills to cultivate and enhance the Respect for People Commitments and the Respect for People culture

Class 4:  Leading Continuous Improvement - Part 1

  • Manage an Improvement Idea System for teams to engage in idea generation, prioritization, and problem solving
  • Monitor improvement progress and provide an escalation structure for when additional guidance is needed
  • Use and coach to A3 Thinking

Class 5:  Leading Continuous Improvement - Part 2

  • Use and coach to 5S to achieve standardization by:
    • Applying 5S methodology to every day work
    • Maintaining the standard work resulting from 5S efforts
    • Using visual controls to maintain the standards

Class 6:  Leading Strategic Focus

  • Uses Driver Diagram and Catch-Ball to:
    • Define and cascade strategic priority work
    • Maintain focus while continually prioritizing and deselecting work
  • Use a Strategic Visual with your team at least weekly:
    • Your position's strategic goals
    • Progress over time for your goals, updated at least monthly
  • Update/Discuss Progress Towards Targets and Measures Weekly Using Leader Standard Work

Class 7:  Leading Cross-Functional Teamwork

  • Understand the value your area delivers to the customer and organization using Value Streams
  • Engage in Cross-Functional Teams to:
    • understand impacts on each other's work
    • improve the value delivered to customers
