ForwardPharmacy Innovations Conference on Antithrombotic Therapy (PICAT) 2026
Overview
The yearly Pharmacy Innovations Conference on Antithrombotic Therapy (PICAT) is developed to provide cutting edge science to the target audience of pharmacists whose clinical practice includes antithrombotic patient care. Attendance at this program is targeted toward pharmacists practicing in anticoagulation clinics or teaching in schools and colleges of pharmacy.
Learning Objectives
- Describe, analyze, and critique recent antithrombotic clinical trial results and studies and project their impact on patient care.
- Describe the considerations for anticoagulation before, during, and after organ transplant surgery, including review of pertinent drug interactions, and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes.
- Assess the needs and consideration of adult patients with low body weight.
- Describe the key clinical considerations in managing patients with portal vein thrombosis with or without liver failure. The participants will also become familiar with the most recent data and society guidance on the topic.
- Cite how clinicians describe the clinical presentation of heparin resistance, discuss challenges in developing a consensus definition of this term and identify strategies for management.
- Identify drug interactions for direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and discuss how to navigate conflicting and changing information regarding DOAC drug interactions for patient care
- Describe the most current antithrombotic management strategies for acute stroke care and extended care post stroke.
- Describe, analyze, and critique recent antithrombotic clinical trial results and studies exploring Factor XIa anticoagulants in advanced stages of development.
- Determine dosing recommendations, and considerations in management decisions using the current eGFR approach.
