ForwardPediatric Mental Health Screening Tools
Based upon the AAP’s Mental Health Toolkit (2010) and the AAP policy statement on behavioral health integration into pediatric primary care (2009), this educational opportunity is designed to support health care professionals in behavioral health provision. This one-hour training reviews AAP recommendations on pediatric mental health screening and some of the supporting literature. Professionals learn about two mental health screening tools and are provided with copies of each: Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social Emotional-Second Edition, and Pediatric Symptom Checklist-17.
Intended Audience
This program is intended for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and social workers who utilize these tools in their practice.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this educational activity, learners as members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Outline and make use of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Task Force on Mental Health’s recommendations around mental health screening
- Utilize basic implementation of the ASQ:SE 2 and PSC-17 screening tools
- Identify at least one way to incorporate mental health screening into well-child care delivery in primary care practice.
- Identify resources for children with mental health concerns, their families, as well, as their care team providers
