Mandated Reporting Best Practices
This is a 2-hour workshop that will cover provider requirements regarding mandated reporting in the State of Wisconsin. This activity is open only to UW Health/UW-SMPH Faculty & Staff. A link to the activity will be provided to learners prior to the start of the activity.
Intended Audience
This activity is designed for UW Health/UW-SMPH physicians, nurses, psychologists, and social workers that provide care to individuals covered by the mandated reporting laws of Wisconsin.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participation in this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to
- Define maltreatment as outlined in Chapter 48 and apply the indicated procedures in practice
- Summarize the process for contacting Child Protective Services (CPS)
- Outline the information required for CPS reporting
- Distinguish between when to file a CPS report or refer families to community resources
- Identify the potential effects of a CPS investigation
- Explain the power differential between CPS and families
- Discuss the role of race, oppression, power, and privilege in CPS reporting trends and system experiences
