The Interdisciplinary Lens: Ethics, Boundaries, and Best Practices in Eating Disorder Treatment
By participating in this 4-hour activity, clinicians will learn how to clearly delineate scopes of practice across therapy, dietary, and medical disciplines to prevent role confusion and clinical "team splitting." Participants will gain practical frameworks to navigate high-stakes ethical dilemmas, balancing client autonomy against medical beneficence during acute instability and level-of-care transitions. The session also provides concrete strategies for setting firm boundaries around non-traditional interventions, such as digital meal tracking and experiential community exposures. Finally, attendees will learn how to identify implicit weight stigma and apply weight-inclusive, culturally responsive care to better serve diverse patient populations across all body sizes.

- Analyze the ethical tensions between patient autonomy and beneficence/non-maleficence when navigating severe medical instability, refusal of care, and higher level-of-care transitions.
- Develop objective, HIPAA-compliant interprofessional communication protocols (e.g., SBAR frameworks) to prevent and intercept clinical team splitting across care settings.
- Apply weight-inclusive, culturally responsive intervention frameworks to mitigate implicit weight stigma and eliminate diagnostic disparities in eating disorder care across diverse body sizes and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Formulate proactive boundary management strategies and informed consent protocols for non-traditional clinical interventions, including asynchronous digital communications.
