February 5: Pre-Session and Live Session

This four-hour blended course will provide an overview of professional documents as well as Wisconsin statutes as they pertain to physical therapy. Participants will complete pre-course assignments and actively engage throughout the 2.0 hours face-to-face time with opportunities to reflect on, share-out, and discuss their own ethical questions surrounding clinical cases using the RIPS model and incorporate social drivers. Topics will include clinical education, clinical relationships, use of Artificial Intelligence and billing practices.

    Learning Objectives

    At the end of the course participants will be able to:

    1. Identify the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant (PT/PTA) Core values.
    2. Discuss ethical considerations in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the clinical environment.
    3. Discuss the implications of ethical and legal billing practices to various stakeholders.
    4. Discuss conflict of interests and ethical considerations relative to clinical relationships. 
    5. Defend decisions using legal and professional documents.

    Sue Wenker

    Dr. Sue Wenker earned her Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academy of Practice. She is co-coordinator of the UW CIPE Healthy Aging Initiative. In 2020 Dr. Wenker received two awards through the Academy of Geriatrics, the Joan M Mills Award, the highest award in the Academy, and the Distinguished Educator Award. She was a recipient of the SMPH Dean’s Teaching Award in 2021. Dr. Wenker has a joint appointment in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.

    Jeanne Duncan

    Dr. Jeanne Duncan earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the UW Madison and her Transitional Doctorate in PT from the College of St. Scholastica. She is the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for the UW Madison DPT Program.  She has presented both regionally and nationally on topics surrounding clinical education and ethics.  She is a Credentialed Clinical Instructor and a trainer for the APTA Credentialing Clinical Instructor Program.
