Course Overview

The purpose of this training is to provide an overview of the tools commonly used by physicians in EpicCare Ambulatory, ASAP ED, and EpicCare Inpatient, as well as to review the process of building SmartTexts, SmartLists, and Order Sets. This overview will provide some context for the use of the content tools and for reporting from EpicCare. The class will be at a relatively high level and won’t be able to get into a lot of detail on the different functions of the application or address particular specialty workflows. This class is not designed for someone trying to achieve EpicCare Proficiency or Certification.

Elements of Comptence

This CME activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties area of systems-based practice.

Practice Gaps and Needs

The purpose of this training is to provide an overview of the tools commonly used by physicians, as well as review the process of building SmartTexts, SmartLists and Order Sets. This overview will provide some context for the use of the content tools and for reporting from EpicCare.

Intended Audience

This program is intended for physicians using EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare ED and EpicCare Inpatient in their daily practice.

Learning Objectives

Following this training the participant will be able to create:

  • List the tools used to review patient information, document an assessment, and plan for a patient in the clinic
  • Identify the tools used to review patient information, document patient progress, and manage a patient’s orders while admitted to the hospital
  • State the tools to document a patient’s visit to the Emergency Room
  • Describe how a patient or family can interact with clinicians through MyChart
  • Explain how a patient’s record is shared throughout the healthcare system
