End-of-Life Care for Buddhist Patients | December 11, 2025
Overview
This course explores how core Buddhist beliefs and practices shape medical decision-making and end-of-life preferences, particularly within the Madison community. With a growing number of local residents identifying as Buddhist or engaging in Buddhist meditation, healthcare providers have a unique opportunity to offer culturally sensitive support. Participants will gain insight into what constitutes a "good death" in Buddhist traditions—such as uninterrupted meditation, a calm environment, and thoughtful pain management—and learn how to better align care with these values. The course also introduces assessment strategies to help interdisciplinary staff respectfully engage with Buddhist patients and enhance the quality of end-of-life care.
