ECHO Autism Wisconsin Series: Medical Follow-Up, February 9, 2023
PROVIDED BY
UW–Madison Waisman Center
and
University of Wisconsin–Madison Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership (ICEP)
OVERVIEW
This activity will replicate a model for training primary care providers in best-practice care for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) using the Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) framework. ECHO programs use a tele-mentoring approach to the education of clinicians in a Hub/Spoke design. ECHO Autism is a model developed by Dr. Kristen Sohl to address the need for increased competence of primary care providers (PCPs) in providing care for children with ASD. ECHO Autism addresses gaps in the healthcare system for ASD by providing training and mentoring on the identification of ASD and medical management of comorbidities. This team will lead a virtual learning loop with the PCPs serving as spokes, sharing clinical cases from their practices with the Hub team and others. As cases are presented and didactics are delivered, PCPs will increase their self-efficacy, comfort, and knowledge in screening and treating children with ASD.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for physicians, advanced practice nurses, and physician assistants.
