ECHO Autism: What Does Anxiety and Autism Look Like in School-Age Children and Youth

OVERVIEW

The purpose of this activity is to learn best practices and evidence-based mental health care for children with autism. The Waisman Center is launching a training series for mental health providers on the intersection of anxiety and autism. Five sessions will be offered live virtually on every other Friday from October-December, 2022. Project ECHO® is a lifelong learning and guided practice model that is designed to build capacity  to provide evidence-based services. Participants will get their clinical questions answered by University of Wisconsin–Madison Waisman Center autism experts.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for psychologists and social workers.

ACTIVITY OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity, the learners and the health care team will be able to:

  • Identify behavioral indicators of anxiety in school-aged children with autism
  • Adapt at least one evidence-based therapy for anxiety for children with autism
  • Access additional behavioral health resources for children with autism and anxiety

ELEMENTS OF COMPETENCE

This activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the interprofessional competency of roles/responsibilities.

Credit Designation Statements

American Psychological Association (APA)

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs.

 

ASWB Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Social Work Credit

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 live continuing education credits.

 

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

The University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP, as a member of the University Professional & Continuing Education Association (UPCEA), authorizes this program for .15 CEUs or 1.5 hours.
