ECHO Autism: Diagnostic Assessment for School-Age Children Series: Special Topic - Girls and Masking, March 21, 2024

March 21, 2024

Provided by

UW–Madison Waisman Center
and
University of Wisconsin–Madison Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership (ICEP)

Overview/Statement of Need

There are not enough health care professionals able to provide diagnostic evaluation for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Wisconsin. Families often wait many months to access ASD diagnostic evaluation when it is recommended for their child. This delays their child's access to supports and services available only when an ASD diagnosis has been confirmed. In addition, many psychology graduate training programs do not have comprehensive coursework and/or training in ASD assessment.

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, psychologists, and social workers.

Activity Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  • Explain how women and girls present with autism
  • Apply information about masking in girls into your own diagnostic practice

Elements of Competence

This continuing education (CE) activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, and patient care and procedural skills, in addition to the interprofessional competency of interprofessional communication.
