Cardiac Surgery Class: Didactic & Skills - Oct 23, 2025
Overview
This activity provides an in-depth overview of surgical heart patient care tailored for nurses. Participants will explore key topics such as cardiac pathophysiology, the surgical process, and commonly used medications. The course also emphasizes post-operative care, including recovery protocols, complication management, patient education, and discharge planning. By the end, nurses will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently care for patients recovering from heart surgery.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this activity, participants, as members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Explain the patient criteria for surgery, the surgical process, and the nursing management and interventions for post-cardiac surgical care
- Develop skills in interpreting and managing hemodynamics using a Swan-Ganz catheter
- Apply knowledge in the troubleshooting of temporary pacemakers
- Identify post-operative cardiac surgery complications and determine appropriate management interventions
