  • Summarize guideline recommendations for antibiotic synergy in E. faecalis infective endocarditis 
  • Discuss literature comparing the use of gentamicin vs ceftriaxone for synergy in E. faecalis endocarditis 

Phenobarbital in Alcohol Withdrawal - Sean Van Helden, Pharmacy Student 
Objectives: 

  • Explain the pathophysiology and risk factors of severe alcohol withdrawal 
  • Describe the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and rationale for phenobarbital use 
  • Recall general principles in using phenobarbital for alcohol withdrawal 

Refresher on Argatroban - Will Shockey, Pharmacy Student 
Objectives: 

  • Assess a patient for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia 
  • Evaluate when argatroban is indicated 
  • Determine the appropriate argatroban dose when initiating therapy 
  • Safely monitor and adjust argatroban
