Overview

This statewide conference will offer participants a comprehensive and up‑to‑date overview of best practices for identifying and managing congenital Cytomegalovirus (cCMV). Attendees will delve into current approaches to screening, clinical follow‑up, and family support, and will gain familiarity with tools and resources developed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) in collaboration with the cCMV WiSPER (Wisconsin Screening, Prevention, and Early Recognition) stakeholder group. Participants will leave this event equipped with practical, actionable strategies to strengthen the care provided to newborns affected by cCMV across Wisconsin.

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for nurses, advanced practice nurses, physicians, pre-hospital providers, social workers, public health workers, patients, caregivers, community members.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Recognize the pathophysiology and presentation of newborns with congenital CMV including indications for screening and describe current management approaches.
  2. Discuss strategies to decrease perinatal transmission of CMV.
  3. Describe the interdisciplinary roles and collaborative strategies among maternal, pediatric and allied health professionals, and families to optimize outcomes for newborns with cCMV.
  4. Identify key audiology management principles specific to cCMV and hearing differences.
