Series Overview
Robust research in the field of pediatric rheumatology is important to better understand disease manifestations, to identify best practices and treatments, and most importantly, to address the burden of these diseases on the lives of patients and their families. The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to conducting collaborative research to prevent, treat and cure pediatric rheumatic diseases. The organization is comprised of physicians, researchers, nurses and research coordinators, and patient and family members, representing over 65 pediatric rheumatology centers in North America and abroad. In order to ensure that CARRA is uniformly collecting the most up-to-date measures to capture the different rheumatic diseases, stakeholders must be aware of any novel treatments and disease measures and receive refreshers on current practices. Without uniformity in the use and implementation of research measures and clinical practice, comparisons among sites would be impossible and likely contribute to extraneous conclusions. The proposed continuing education series is designed to create a uniform platform that introduces aspects of the changing landscape of pediatric rheumatology practice, incorporating clinical, research, and patient/family perspectives in order to conduct efficient and effective research that will better the lives of children with rheumatic disease.

- Improve ability to approach pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases and families with the measures to collect accurate data about the disease and effects of treatment.
- Be able to administer (or assist in administering) the presented disease measures, explain what data are being collected and their importance, and collect and report necessary data to ensure that the measures are complete.
- Improve interprofessional communication, and collaborative care and research in the area of pediatric rheumatic diseases.
