Clinician Training for Implementation of Breast Cancer Screening Shared Decision Making in Primary Care
Course Overview
Shared Decision Making (SDM) is a communication strategy that engages patients in medical decisions. It prioritizes patient values in the decision-making process and is an important tenet of patient centered care. SDM is particularly important for clinical preventive services when patients are often unaware of the potential benefits and harms of screening tests, such as breast cancer screening. Despite clear guidelines and wide acceptance, SDM is underutilized.
This course provides a comprehensive overview of SDM for breast cancer screening and provides guidance in how to best utilize SDM methods in your clinical practice. Participants have multiple opportunities to engage in learning by viewing videos, contributing to polling questions, working through interactive activities, and studying provided educational resources.
Intended Audience
Clinicians (physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners) and supporting primary care practices/teams.
